    A Case for Spring Wines

As the chill in the air graduates to a tepid breeze and the snow melts from our petite Australian Alps, as the sun greets us for a little longer each day and the last of the blossoms are blooming, let us rejoice!

Though a velvety red will always hold a place in our hears, our palette for Springtime flavours has awoken from its prolonged winter slumber, and we are ready to pop the cork on a bottle (or six) that celebrates our favourite season - Spring!

Ahead of us, we are going to explore six local wines from Victorian producers that our Group Head Sommelier, Carlos Simoes Santos has hand-picked just for you, dear reader. Like each glass that we share, each wine has a producer with a tale to tell. Carlos is our master story-teller.

    1. Bindi 'Kostas Rind', Macedon Ranges $105
"Vue de monde has partnered with Bindi since we first opened in 2000, and their wine never disappoints. This is a serious wine, with searing acidity but it is also crisp, with a very long finish. Notes of citrus, pomace fruit and a light hint of butterscotch. Wine is ready to drink now, but has the potential for further aging."

    2. 1999 Mount Langi 'Langi' Riesling, Grampians $160
"Mount Langi is one of the top two wineries in the Grampians, and a not too long ago was considered to be alongside Penfold's Grange. This is a fully matured white wine with an intense bouquet of mango, barbequed pineapple, and yellow flowers. A wine with some age that definitely will sing when partnered with something to eat."

    3. 2004 Giaconda 'Warner Vineyard' Cabernet Sauvignon, Beechworth $350
"When I first arrived in Australia we drove to Beechworth which my Australian companions told me 'was not too far away'. In Portugal, 3 1/2 hours is enough time to drive across the entire country - but the Giaconda certainly made it worthwhile! We drank it with some lamb, which I am not usually a fan of but a glass of Giaconda I was a convert. This is a big one, a definitely a wine to serve with food. It's ready to drink but you can continue to cellar it for years to come. A long finish, full-bodied wine with silky tannins, ripe and intense flavours of dark chocolate.

    4. 1993 Wantirna Estate 'Amelia' Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot, Yarra Valley $460
"One of the oldest wineries in the Yarra Valley from the newer generation of the 1960's. The Amelia is a well-developed wine with tertiary aromas of leather, mushroom and ripe blackberries. This is a wine you want to see served with a beautiful piece of quail, duck, or lamb."
